1. LaLiga Lounge

For this week I recommend visiting LaLiga Lounge located in the Sheraton Park. I have visited the restaurant twice and every time I have been impressed with their food.  The restaurant is a nice place to unwind over virgin cocktails and mouthwatering Spanish-style dishes and comfort foods, prepared by renowned Spanish Chef Juan. I especially love the ambience, and the decor is very sportive and chic.

Like any good sports lounge, LaLiga offers patrons the opportunity to watch the most exciting games through their big screens with dozens of high tech displays.

For me the best thing about the place is the food. I recommend trying the chilled Gazpacho soup, the Batata Harra, Paella Negra and the Caldera Spanish Seafood Stew, which is incredibly tasty and well-executed.

2. Driven by German Design

I have been wanting to check out "Driven by German Design" ever since the exhibition opening was announced earlier this year in October. The exhibition, that's being held at Al Riwaq Gallery, was curated by renowned museum director Dr. Martin Roth before he passed away.

The exhibition features numerous design objects loaned from some of Germany’s most significant cultural institutions, such as the Porsche Museum and Museum für Angewandte Kunst Frankfurt. "Driven" provides a glimpse into Germany's design development from the 1950’s to the present day.

The exhibition is open to visitors till 14th January, 2018, and is part of the Qatar Germany 2017 Year of Culture, which is organised by Qatar Museums, the German Embassy in Doha and the Goethe-Institut Gulf Region.

3. Thor Ragnarok - at cinemas now

My pick is the latest Marvel movie Thor: Ragnarok, but not for the reasons you may think. This is not your typical Marvel movie and is more of an action comedy in the vein of 1986's Big Trouble In Little China. Director Taika Waititi is the New Zealand equivalent of Wes Anderson, and if you haven't seen his previous work such as Hunt for The Wilderpeople, What We do In The Shadows, Boy and Eagle vs Shark, you've been missing out. He brings a quirkiness to the superhero genre that works perfectly! The movie has enough action and laughs to keep everyone entertained, and of course, make sure you stay till the end credits have finished for the bonus scenes.

4. OK Soda

“What’s the point of OK Soda? Well, what’s the point of anything?”

OK Soda was a soft drink released by the Coca-Cola company during the early 90s. It had a unique advertising campaign featuring cynical, self-critical promos which bordered on negative publicity and poked fun at the ideas of advertising and branding themselves. The drink was marketed as bland, unsensational and “just OK”. This counter-intuitive approach was aimed towards the Gen-X and Gen-Y markets and their perceived disillusionment with rampant consumerism and the hype prevalent in standard mass-media ad campaigns.

It didn’t work though. The cynical and anti-corporate veneer slapped onto this new flavour of sugar-water somehow failed to catch on and sales figures lagged. Today however, a wide variety of companies rely on “viral” ads that poke fun at the fact that they are essentially just trying to sell you a product. In many instances, these self-referential postmodern ads have been wildly successful (Old Spice, Sprite, etc.). Perhaps the masterminds behind the OK Soda marketing campaign were just a few decades ahead of their time.

OK Soda was discontinued in 1995. It is not available anywhere.

5. Intermittent fasting
There is a weight loss myth that goes, breakfast is the most important meal of the day—that's not necessarily true when it comes to intermittent fasting.

Intermittent fasting is basically not eating for up to 16 hours a day. The logic behind it is that when your body doesn’t have glucose when you’re fasting, your body turns to the stored fat for energy. I have been following the intermittent fasting regime for the past 3 weeks and I can tell you it works better than any conventional diet I've tried before.

I have already lost 5kg, and I'm eating the same amount of food that I eat everyday, with the only difference being my meal timings; usually between 2pm and 10pm. With intermittent fasting, I don't feel sluggish or tired, and instead feel alert and energised.

I have included a video from a youtube channel called, Picture Fit. I would advise you watch it before starting your fast. Plus, check out other videos from them for a great guide on nutrition and weight loss.

6. Assassin's Creed

My pick of the week is the Assassin’s Creed Franchise. Ubisoft, the developers of the game, recently released a new one, Assassin’s Creed Origins, but I definitely urge you guys to play the whole series. The game is a free roam action adventure, and as the player you unfold the centuries-old struggle pitting Assassin’s and Templars against each other. You will play as an assassin and you can parkour your way around the maps. You have the choice to do side quest and get cool extras, or get straight to the point with your main quest. The thing I really like about this game is how it’s presented as an interactive story to the player, giving you that feeling of wanting to know more, as you continue playing the game. Enjoy gaming everyone!

7. "Territory" by The Blaze

Cannes Lions Grand Prix winner for Film Craft

I clicked on this video out of curiosity when it popped up on my newsfeed, and was blown away. I think I’ve memorised it at this point. The Blaze is a French rap duo, and the short film/music video for their track "Territory" is one of the finest I’ve seen. It was recognised for its superb cinematography and storytelling at the 2017 Cannes Lions festival.

Just watch it.

If you want to read a little more about The Blaze, here’s an interesting, informative article.
