During a certification ceremony conducted at the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) headquarters on Thursday, the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) was awarded Event Sustainable Management Certification, Directors of departments and the QOC Secretary-General, HE Jassim bin Rashid al-Buenain, were present at the ceremony. Hussam Refaai, CEO of Bureau Veritas (the granting business), and QOC staff also attended the ESMS award ceremony.

This ESMS will assist all organizations and people in ensuring the long-term viability of their sporting events and related activities. It also promotes Qatar's sustainable development goals and adheres to Qatar's 2030 National Vision requirements. In addition to decreasing the negative environmental, social, and economic repercussions of the events, QOC is strengthening its relationships with important stakeholders.

ESMS will establish a work framework to assist in the achievement of sustainable development standards in accordance with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and IOC standards, which are based on sustainable development concepts such as inclusion, management, integrity, and legacy. Furthermore, this system will improve all event management operations in order, beginning with the concept, planning, implementation, and auditing stages, as well as post-event activities. It also has a positive impact on the environment, promotes economic progress, and helps to create truly sustainable communities.

Most notably, as a truly sustainable legacy inherited from the inaugural ANOC World Beach Games Qatar 2019, sustainability themes were put into practice at the second edition of the 2022 QOC Beach Games hosted at Katara Cultural Village in March.

The Qatar Olympic Committee has raised sustainability criteria in three areas: community sustainability, environmental sustainability, and economic sustainability, in light of the country's yearly beach activities.

QOC Secretary-General HE Jassim bin Rashid al-Buenain expressed his gratitude and pride at receiving this certification on this occasion. “I appreciate the collective contributions of teamwork that helped QOC to get this certification. Together we have to push ahead to make our objectives real. This certification goes with QOC’s strategic plan which includes an annual data base as per the international criteria. It also improves our work outputs and meets customers’ needs as per our upcoming 2023-2027 strategy, as well as it meets QOC’s vision: To Become a Leading Nation in Bringing The World Together Through Sustainable Sport Development.”

It is a vital certification to QOC, according to Fahad Ebrahim Juma, Director of Strategy & Projects Department. It will assist our integrated sport system perform more efficiently and professionally.
