Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has been working tirelessly to provide humanitarian services and support to the vulnerable, locally and internationally.
Building on its earlier efforts, QRCS has now launched a large-scale international relief initiative to implement a host of COVID-19 control projects in 22 countries.
The initiative aims to benefit as many as 320,000 people and will be carried out under a budget of QR2,236,827.

QRCS’ foreign representation offices and missions jointly with the host fellow national societies will work on the implementation of the projects.
The target countries include:
Asia
Palestine, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nepal, Tajikistan, Mongolia and Laos
Africa
Ethiopia, Chad, Senegal, Mauritania, Côte d'Ivoire, Mali, and Sierra Leone
Europe
Albania, Kosovo, and Montenegro
South America
Venezuela, El Salvador and Peru
North America
Panama
Oceania
Vanuatu
“The initiative is aimed at backing the efforts exerted by those countries to reduce the spread of the virus, alleviate its impact on the populations, provide health protection supplies for ambulance and emergency personnel, and support health facilities and services to be able to provide care for the suspected and confirmed cases," said Ibrahim Abdullah Al Maliki, QRCS chief executive director.
According to Al Malki, under the initiative, QRCS will provide medicines, medical equipment, and consumables to help in the treatment of patients.
Additionally, he mentioned that QRCS “will enhance protection of the medical professionals who deal with quarantined patients by securing masks, gloves, sanitizers, and other medical protective supplies.”
Food baskets will also be given out to families most affected by the lockdown.
QRCS has signed co-operation agreements with the partner national societies for the purpose of implementation.
Preliminary coordination has already commenced, and the execution process will last until the end of 2020, QRCS said.
The initiative is part of QRCS’ efforts to fight COVID-19 in Qatar and beyond.
Last week, QRCS marked World Humanitarian Day, appreciating the hard work of its volunteers and relief workers in Qatar and around the world.
