A sudden heart attack got Malian defender Ousmane Coulibaly to collapse on the field during the QNB Stars League Round 13 match between Al Wakrah and Al Rayyan. The match was halted and postponed as a result.
The 32-year-old Al-Wakrah player was provided with efficient medical attention and was taken to the hospital immediately from Thani Bin Jassim Stadium.
In a press release, the Qatar Stars League stated that they wish Coulibaly a quick recovery, and extended their gratitude towards the medical staff of the two teams, the paramedics and the doctors for their meticulous efforts during the incident.
At the event of the incident, that is the 41st minute, Al Rayyan were leading 1-0. In light of the unfortunate accident that occurred the match officials and the teams decided to recommence the match at a subsequent time.
Qatar Football Association president Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani was present at the stadium to spectate the match. He provided swift assistance within minutes by speaking to the managements of both teams and the match officials. Al Wakrah media officer Mohamed Al Sulaiti later told Al Kaas that they are highly concerned about the well-being of Ousmane and the other players and that the three points or the match is not a grave concern considering the shocking event.
