People living in and around Al Wakrah have reasons to rejoice as the first zone of the first phase of Al Wakrah Beach Development Project will be thrown open to the public on May 15, according to Gulf Times.
Ashghal said main works of the first zone of the project have been completed.
The opening of the zone comes as part of an integrated plan developed by Ashghal for the development of the Corniche areas in Doha City, Al Wakrah City, Al Khor and Al Shamal.
Ashghal will develop the beach of Al Wakrah, which is composed of three zones and covering an area of 335,000 square metres, and is designed to become a leisure destination suitable for families, reported Qatar Tribune.
Al Wakrah Municipality’s Buildings Project Management Department engineer Khalid Abdulla Al Najjar said paving of interlocking bricks for the 2,100M-long pedestrian walkways have been completed. The stretch will provide shaded areas for families.
Currently, all the pergolas for Zone 1 have been installed.
The project also includes three green areas covering 25,000SqM, in addition to 98 solar light poles along the beach to reduce electricity consumption.
The 2,500M long metal fence along the beach will be built with three entrances.
The remaining works on the project will be completed by July and it will include 12 buildings for public toilets distributed among the three beach areas, and three equipped buildings to be used as a cafeteria in the future as well as three guard rooms.
The project, launched in October last year, also includes 600 parking spaces over an area of 20,000SqM.
