The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) participated in another virtual lecture with students at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) following last April’s successful delivery of an online lecture on sustainability for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™.

The SC’s Sustainability and Environmental Subject Matter Expert, Orjan Lundberg, spoke to students in the Masters of Sport and Entertainment Management class about the importance of implementing sustainability practices in the organizing of major events like the FIFA World Cup™. 

Lundberg said, “It is always great fun to engage with students on sustainability. I shared some insights from developing and delivering the sustainability programme for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™.”

“Equipping future event managers with sustainability knowledge takes us a step closer to leaving a legacy of sustainable events in Qatar and will help set new industry standards for future mega events.”  

This week’s session forms part of a lecture series that HBKU has partnered with the SC to deliver to students in the Masters of Sport and Entertainment Management class – a joint degree programme being delivered by the University of South Carolina and HBKU.

A second lecture will take place in October 2020 for the HBKU’s Venue Management class in one of the following three topics – Security, Workers’ Welfare and Fan Engagement.

Beyond partnerships with different educational institutions in Qatar and around the world, as a center of excellence that works to build capacity in the area of the sports and events industries in Qatar and the MENA region Jasoor Institute plays a key role in the delivery of knowledge sharing through education, training, professional certification, consultancy and research.

Other outreach initiatives include Generation Amazing, a legacy program established in 2010 to address social issues through football for development training – in Qatar and around the world.
