People who love outdoor activities, and those who live near Al Wakrah, are in for a treat as the new Souq Al Wakrah will celebrate the Spring Festival from January 19 to February 13.

The festival is expected to feature several artistic activities as well as entertainment shows and games for children, reported Qatar Tribune.

The Souq, which overlooks the sea, is hosting the festival for the first time.

One of the Spring Festival’s highlights will be the staging of an operetta on ‘life in Qatar before the discovery of oil and gas.’ It will focus on Qatari citizens’ early dependence on pearl diving and the hardships divers had to face at sea.

The operetta, directed by Faisal Al Tamimi, will also have several Qatari actors in the cast. A small game zone for kids will function next to the parking area.

On January 20, there will be a 15-minute fireworks show.

Souq Al Wakrah, ever since its opening last year, has drawn thousands of visitors and shoppers to it. The souq includes cafes and restaurants and traditional buildings portraying Qatar's architectural heritage.
