According to a notice by the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL), passengers from Gulf countries, including Qatar will not be allowed to enter Sri Lanka.

This decision was announced by CAASL via their Twitter account yesterday, as nearly 110 passengers from the Middle East were tested positive for COVID-19 on arrival.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka today revised its earlier decision of the two-week travel ban from July 1 for passengers from Gulf countries, allowing entry if certain conditions are met.  

Director-General of the CAASL Capt. Themiya Abeywickrama said, “In according with instructions received from the Ministry of Health and the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) the passenger restriction on the following 6 Countries (Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait) is revoked with immediate effect on the following conditions”.

The conditions communicated were as follows. 

1. All arriving passengers must have a negative PCR Test obtained within 96 hours prior to departure. Airline to ensure this before boarding passengers.
2. Antigen tests cannot be accepted as a pre-departure test for boarding.
3. PCR test must be presented from a government-approved hospital or laboratory in the respective country with a QR Code or Bar Code.
4. Airlines must satisfy themselves with the authenticity of the test reports presented by the passengers.
5. Passengers are permitted to arrive only for Hotel Quarantine or through the Sri Lanka Tourism Bio-Bubble Route.
