This September, Qatar Museums presents a wide-ranging programme of cultural, educational, and creative activities for the community.

From stargazing during a once-in-a-century lunar eclipse at the Museum of Islamic Art, to storytelling and family tours at the National Museum of Qatar, and dynamic workshops at Mathaf, M7, and Liwan, the month is filled with opportunities to learn, explore, and be inspired.

Highlights also include Tasweer’s immersive photography lecture with Kamal Naji, archaeology-inspired workshops, and interactive sports debates at 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum.

Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art

Mathaf is arranging workshops and training sessions ranging from portraiture with Ismail Azzam to creative fashion upcycling and public speaking skills.

How to Write a Public Speech

A series of interactive training workshops designed to enhance communication, public speaking, and vocal expression skills, positively impacting participants’ personal and professional abilities.

Art lessons with Ismail Azzam

Date: Every Sunday & Tuesday throughout September

Participants will learn different portraiture techniques using various mediums, including pencil, charcoal and paint. The workshop aims to provide a stimulating atmosphere for developing artistic talent, sharing experiences and engaging in artistic discussion.

Fashion Forward

Fashion Forward: Upcycling Style is a 7-month journey happening once a month at Mathaf Museum. In collaboration with Sustainability Week, teens will transform everyday materials into bold, wearable art — leading up to a final fashion show where they will showcase their unique designs.

Tasweer

Tasweer invites participants to discover the art and history of photography through an engaging lecture and exclusive tour of antique cameras and collections.

Lecture: A Tour in the Worlds of Photography with Kamal Naji

Join the photographer and antique collector Kamal Naji in an evening lecture to explore the evolution of photography and to meet the pioneering minds behind its development. Following the lecture, join Kamal Naji will hold an exclusive tour of his antique cameras and collected media objects, some over a century old, each carrying its own story.

The National Museum of Qatar

NMAQ welcomes families for interactive storytelling, drop-in activities on pearl diving heritage, and guided tours that bring Qatar’s culture and history to life.

Drop-in Activity: The Life of the Pearl Divers

NMAQ invites you to explore a curated selection of collections that tell the story of pearl divers, shedding light on their way of life and their vital role in shaping the economic and social development of the nation.

Family Tour: Family’s Exploration Journey

Families will join an interactive adventure through the museum galleries and family exhibits. Children will actively enhance their knowledge of Qatar’s environment, heritage, and culture by using their problem-solving skills.

The Museum of Islamic Art (MIA)

The MIA will offer rare and enriching experiences including a once-in-100-years total lunar eclipse viewing, family days, and creative workshops celebrating the beauty of nature in Islamic art.

Total Lunar Eclipse

A public astronomy event organised by the Museum of Islamic Art in collaboration with Qatar Calendar House. The programme includes live observation of the total lunar eclipse from MIA Park, along with interactive astronomy activities for the whole family. This rare astronomical phenomenon occurs only once every 100 years!

An engaging tour for adults, exploring the scientific and technological contributions of the Islamic world.

Treasure Hunt | 4pm

A family-friendly game for children (8+) and their families, combining fun with educational clues themed around the lunar eclipse.

Art Workshop | 4:30 PM

A creative session for adults, to create artwork inspired by the lunar eclipse.

Family Day: The Blessings of Quranic Plants and their Meanings

Date: September 13

Time: 3pm to 5pm

In collaboration with the Quranic Botanic Garden, the public are invited to discover the hidden blessings of Islamic plants and learn about their significance and representation in Islamic art and traditions. Join Family Day at the Museum of Islamic Art Atrium and explore a variety of these remarkable plants and take part in activities inspired by the richness and beauty of the natural world.

Sacred Gardens: The Plants of the Quran

In collaboration with the Quranic Botanic Garden, discover the plants mentioned in the Quran and their significance in Islamic culture, art and traditions. This programme identifies their symbolism, historical uses and artistic representations across centuries, in addition participants will gain insight into how these plants have been depicted in manuscripts, architecture and decorative arts, while also engaging in a creative activity inspired by nature’s beauty. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to connect with history, art and nature in an inspiring setting.

3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum (QOSM)

3-2-1 QOSM inspires dialogue on sport and society through international conferences, debates, and family-friendly peace-themed activities.

A series of three-week conferences, debates and hackathons will invite high profile speakers to debate the “big issues” surrounding sport and physical activity participation and its potential to support some of our biggest global challenges, including inactivity and its public health consequences, equity, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and sport for peace and climate action.

Liwan Design Studios and Labs

Liwan Design Studios and Labs combines tradition and technology in a laser cutting and pattern-making workshop that bridges heritage with modern design.

Qatar Museums’ Archaeology Department

Will engages children in hands-on artefact workshops exploring pottery and drawing techniques inspired by Qatar’s archaeological discoveries.

M7 invites participants to develop fashion illustration skills in a hands-on drawing workshop designed for beginners, and personalise their own postcards in a creative session.

Learn the fundamentals of fashion illustration by drawing mannequins with correct proportions, dynamic poses, and simple colouring techniques. This hands-on workshop is perfect for beginners eager to bring their creative fashion ideas to life.
