The Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs (MOLSA) has hired a Swiss-based company to facilitate the process of recruitment of expat workers from abroad, reported The Peninsula.
Switzerland-based VFC, which has branches in all countries that supply workers to different projects in Qatar, will monitor recruitment requirements like medical check-ups, certificate verification and signing of work contract in cooperation with the Ministry.
It is understood that copies of the contracts will be exchanged online, thus avoiding change of contract terms or giving workers false promises. It is also expected to put an end to unfair practices and exploitation of workers in countries of their origin.
The company will start working from next month. At present, Qatar has 35 bilateral agreements and five MoUs with 40 countries to bring in workers to Qatar.
In a bid to strictly ensure the rule of book, MOLSA conducted 1,815 inspection visits to manpower agencies resulting in the closure of some of them. The working of manpower agencies is being strictly monitored.
The ministry increased the number of inspectors to 397 and they have been equipped with modern devices like GPS.
