In a great step forward to accommodate the rising number of Indian students in Qatar, three Indian schools have been granted the permission to introduce a two-shift system at their institutes, the Ambassador of India to Qatar, P Kumaran highlighted at an event held at the Embassy of India yesterday.
Marking the 70th Republic Day of India, the Ambassador confirmed that in addition to the MES Indian School and Shantiniketan Indian School (SIS), Ideal Indian School has also gotten approval to run morning and afternoon shifts by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in Qatar, as reported by the Gulf Times.

Additionally, DPS Modern Indian School will be launching its second campus some time this year, the Ambassador announced, adding that “[This would mean] much better availability of school seats this year, compared to the last year,” as quoted by The Peninsula.
This approval by the Ministry comes in as a relief to parents previously challenged by limited number of seats in affordable schools.

MES Indian School and Shantiniketan Indian School had earlier announced that they would activate two shifts from April this year.
However, the management of the Ideal Indian School is still mapping out the viability of the prospect.
“We are looking into the logistics and will take the call on it very soon,” Principal of the Ideal Indian School, Syed Shoukath Ali is quoted to have said by Gulf Times.
Hameeda Kader, MES Principal, said the school is gearing up for the launch of the second shift and the intricacies are being sorted.
“We have already opened registration for students and depending on the demand, we will decide on the whole programme,” Kader said.
Shantiniketan’s Principal, Dr Subhash Nair noted that the afternoon shift will be structured on India’s Central Board of secondary Education curriculum, incorporating the guidelines put in place by the Ministry.
He added that the second shift would be tailored on the same lines as the first one and “will have the same facilities, standards and features [as well as] the same fees.”
Recently, private schools in Qatar, particularly community schools, were given a nod of approval by the Ministry to run the dual-shift system if the schools abided by the Ministry’s directives.
