If you were caught out by the heavy winds and rains in Qatar yesterday, then you should expect more of the same today, the country’s Met Department has warned.
Yesterday, the country had experienced moderate to heavy rainfall, according to Gulf Times.
The Qatar Met department has issued a warning for thundery rain in the country’s offshore areas this morning, besides windy conditions and high seas.

Meteorology Department (Forecast & Analysis) Director Abdulla Mohamed Al Mannai said scattered rain with wind would continue until mid-day Monday, marking a considerable dip in the temperature.
“Weather will be partly cloudy and moderate rain associated with the thunderstorm is expected until Monday afternoon. The temperature will see a considerable decline up to 4 to 6 degree Celsius after the rain,” he told Qatar Tribune.
The temperature has already gone down significantly in Qatar, with the lowest of this season — 21.4°C — registered at Al Ruwais and Al Shahaniya on Sunday.
Monday’s detailed forecast says it will be cloudy in the early hours and there is a chance of rain, which may be thundery in some places.
This will be followed by partly cloudy and mild daytime conditions, and it will also be relatively cold by night.
The wind speed may go up, at times, to 38 knots offshore and 28 knots inshore, with the sea level rising to 15ft.
The minimum temperature expected in the country on Monday is 18°C in Dukhan and Abu Samra, 19°C in Al Ruwais and 20°C in Doha, Al Wakrah, Al Khor and Mesaieed.
The maximum expected temperatures are 27°C in Doha and Abu Samra, 26°C in Al Wakrah and Mesaieed, 25°C in Al Khor, 24°C in Al Ruwais and 23°C in Dukhan.
Quick response teams active
As soon as thunderstorms began, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) pressed emergency response teams into action, quickly and efficiently helping with the drainage of rain water.

The MME had earlier said that rain emergency teams were deployed at all important points. It also provided a list of numbers across all municipalities and said people should ‘feel free to call the numbers’ during any emergency situation, such as water accumulation.

Public Works Authority (Ashghal) said Sunday’s rains did not affect traffic flow in any way. It said all main roads and tunnels continued to remain open to traffic.
