It is important for both your mind and body to distinguish the difference between being at work and being at home. This is especially significant when it comes to stress. More importantly, it is important to complete the stress cycle. It is inarguable that work is affiliated with stress, because among other factors, it is due to deadlines, being on time, doing a good job, or maintaining productivity. It could be positive or negative stress, but at the end of the day, it is some form of stress. 

Leaving stress to continue after hours can be met with negative factors, both mentally and physically. However, it could also contribute to burnout which makes it very hard to be productive. When an individual is burned out, they do not have the energy to be proactive and easily get a lot of work done. 

When a person gets home after a long day of work, completing the stress cycle can release the stress the person has taken home with them. What this means is that the individual does something that they would not do at work. This could be changing into comfortable clothing, putting away the laptop and phone, taking a nap, meditating, or even going out for a relaxing walk. While these are all beneficial for releasing stress, there are also simpler ways to complete the stress cycle. This includes the simple act of pausing to practice deep breathing that can reduce the amount of stress of an individual right away. This consists of short one-minute breaths, but it goes a long way if done consistently. 

The simple act of laughter is a helpful method in completing the stress cycle. A genuine laugh can contribute to positive emotions and inspire the individual to feel a bit lighter and more content. This also goes for crying, because a good cry is powerful in relieving stress from the heart. After a good cry session, the individual feels a lot lighter. As a result, this helps to complete the stress cycle and release any pent-up negative emotions that need to leave the mind and heart. 

While an individual might come home tired after a long day of work, sometimes a good stress releaser is communication. This can be done by talking to friends or loved ones over the phone and having a meaningful conversation. It could also mean that an individual could go get their favorite takeaway meal and have a quick positive exchange with the friendly restaurant employee. This would reaffirm that it is good in the world, and there are simple aspects to look forward to in life. 

While completing the stress cycle is important, sometimes what helps the most is letting go and tapping into that inner creative. Whether it is picking up photography, writing a piece of poetry, creating some artwork, working on a beautiful painting, or getting into pottery- it is a good reminder to have a bit of fun and let go. This is a big difference from the work setting and it allows the person involved to be in the moment. The best part is that there are so many techniques and methods to alleviate that stress so that a good night’s rest and deep breaths are more than possible to attain.
