Qatar Public Prosecution (QPP) said it had apprehended two individuals for abusing a female sportsperson, via Twitter, after she won honours for the country recently.
In a statement, QPP said the owners of the Twitter accounts were being detained until the investigation wraps.

The Public Prosecution decried the account owners’ actions as ones which would harm the public interest. It noted that it was contrary to social principles, provoking racial strife and hatred, and spreading a spirit of discord among members of society.
The Twitter users’ actions constitute a criminal offence that is punishable by law, said QPP.
