Uber – Everyone's Private Driver

The Silicon Valley based technology company, Uber, is evolving the way the world moves. Started in 2010 in San Francisco Uber seamlessly connects riders to drivers through their app, making cities more accessible, and opening up more possibilities for riders and more business for partner drivers and transport operators.

Uber's rapidly expanding global presence continues to bring people and their cities closer and is currently providing service in over 175 cities across 44 different countries worldwide. In the Middle East Uber is already in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Doha, Jeddah, Riyadh, and Beirut with plans for expansion across the rest of the Middle East.

Uber's signup process and credit cards

The application is available in the Apple App Store, Google Play Store or simply by going to www.uber.com/app in your mobile browser. Upon download a user must register to the app using their email, mobile number, name, and credit card information.

Many customers questions Uber's rationale in asking for credit card information up front without allowing the use of the app prior to providing the credit card information. The reality is that credit card information storage has become extremely secure on the web and protects both customers and drivers from any improper.

A common example is when a driver takes many wrong turns to reach a destination and a customer is forced to pay extra due to the driver's lack of knowledge. In this case, when a customer notifies Uber of the extra charge,

Uber has the ability to give back some of the extra cost to the customer using the credit card information on file. Had the customer paid cash then Uber would not be able to correct any unfair charges.

How to use Uber 

Once a customers has signed up then all available cars are available on the map to view. The app additionally gives an estimate of the time it could take the closest car to arrive at the location set by the pin on the map.

Once a request is made, the customer can see the driver picture, name, car type, and car plate number. The customer can also track the driver on the map as he arrives to the pickup location. Finally, the driver's mobile number is provided to the customer for calling or SMS if needed.

In this way, Uber has been ordering car not only extremely efficient, but also safe because all the information is available for the customer to view and share with family or friends. The customer can also cancel any requests directly in the app.
