In another honorable achievement for Qatar, the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has appointed His Excellency Dr Ahmed bin Mohamed Al Muraikhi of Qatar as a Special Adviser.

In his new role, HE Al Muraikhi will advise the UN Secretary-General "on requests for dialogue and relations with regional organizations and member states," Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said in a statement

As an adviser, he will facilitate cooperation between the UN and its partners, "especially South-South global co-operation and the private sector," the statement added.

"Facilitating high-level meeting for the Secretary-General and other senior UN leaders," is also among the main responsibilities of the Special Adviser.

"Also, the adviser undertakes work on special projects mandated by the Secretary-General, providing advice on co-operation and partnerships areas as well as geopolitical dynamics, methods, and mechanisms for correcting misconceptions about the UN system and its work, as well as undertaking other related activities," the statement underlined.

Previously, HE Al Muraikhi has been the Humanitarian Envoy for the UN, a position he held for three years (2016-2019).

MOFA added that HE Al Muraikhi "has a proven record in diplomatic and humanitarian fields."

He has served in various roles in the Ministry and other institutions in Qatar.
