Almost two days after Vodafone Qatar’s services got hit, the company is yet to completely restore its services.
While Vodafone Qatar announced it had recovered the company’s network on 2G and 3G voice calls to Vodafone numbers and international calls, calls and SMSs are still not possible to Ooredoo numbers, reported Gulf Times.
The company has said that it was continuing to work towards full restoration of all services as soon as possible.
An infographic posted on Vodafone Qatar’s website yesterday showed that calls and SMSes to/from Vodafone Qatar, 3G data services, international calls and roaming services were restored.
But work on restoring services such as calls and SMSes to/from other networks in Qatar and 4G data was shown as ‘in progress.’
Vodafone Qatar experienced a major network outage with their Home Location Register (HLR), a key hardware component of their core network. HLR failure directly impacts the ability to make and receive calls and data sessions, reported The Peninsula.
The equipment failure took place during a network upgrade and extended to the network back-up and redundancy systems.
Although Vodafone announced a compensation package for people affected by the outage, it is unsure whether that will placate irate customers.
Vodafone Qatar’s users raved and ranted on Twitter, with many of them making unflattering remarks about the company.
For the first time in the last 3 days, i am using your network to reply to ur tweets, that is some achievement for a global brand

#vodafoneqatar 4G is still not up and running. Devices are still auto-selecting 3G only. In my books you're still in damage control mode!!! pic.twitter.com/wxbGlYrswa

Dear @OoredooQatar could you please help @VodafoneQatar with their network issue. People are disconnected & you bring them together. Thanks

However, some chose to deal with it with a positive frame of mind.
Thanks to @VodafoneQatar , I see people talking to each other in restaurants, coffee shops, people interacting in parks.
