Qatar announced this week that foreigners and foreign firms will now be permitted to own real estate in more areas across the country.
The decision seeks to attract overseas funds while encouraging economic diversification.
A foreign person can now own properties in nine areas, as opposed to the previously allowed three areas.
In line with this, The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) and the Ministry of Interior (MoI) yesterday launched an office dedicated to facilitating Non-Qatari Real Estate Ownership.
The office has been set up at The Pearl-Qatar and will serve to fulfil the requirements for the sale and purchase of real estate, residential units and offices in the areas covered by Cabinet Resolution No. 28 of 2020.
It will offer guidance and assistance regarding the conditions, controls, benefits, and procedures for ownership.

Utilizing an automated system developed by the two ministries, the office will facilitate the issuance of residency upon completion of ownership or usufruct procedures, in case the property of the owner or the beneficiary is in the category whose value is not less than QR730,000 ($200,000), so that the owner of the property from this category obtains a residence permit for himself and his family without a recruiter for the duration of his ownership of the property.
Additionally, the owner of the property worth at least QAR 3,650,000 million ($1,000,000) will receive permanent residency benefits which include health care, education, and investment in some commercial activities.
While taking part in the inauguration of the office yesterday, His Excellency the Minister of Justice and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Dr Issa bin Saad al-Jafali al-Nuaimi, assessed the workflow and the procedures in place at the office to offer services in line with the quality standards determined by the relevant authorities.
HE the Minister thanked the government and private agencies, particularly MoI and the real estate development companies that helped provide the facilities. The aim of which is to boost the national development process and build an integrated legal and technical infrastructure to achieve Qatar National Vision 2030.
