Qatar launches National Referral System to combat human trafficking

Qatar’s Ministry of Labour has announced the launch of a National Referral System as a new measure to combat human trafficking in the country.

In a post on X, the ministry said the system was developed by the National Committee for Combating Human Trafficking and establishes a clear national framework that strengthens prevention and protection for all stakeholders.

It described the initiative as an officially approved mechanism that sets out procedural rules and pathways for coordination between governmental and non‑governmental bodies, covering reporting, referral, protection, assistance and criminal prosecution in human trafficking cases.

The ministry added that the system aims to streamline coordination so that responses to suspected trafficking cases are timely, effective and integrated, in line with Qatari legislation and relevant international standards.

It noted that, to put an effective referral mechanism into practice, it has adopted a comprehensive procedural framework built with the active participation of government entities and civil society organisations, ensuring coordinated and unified action across all parties involved in combating human trafficking.
