Attorney General Orders Two Doctors and Nurse to Face Trial over Forged Medical Certificates

Qatar’s Attorney General has ordered the referral of two doctors employed at a private medical centre and a nurse working for Primary Health Care Corporation to the competent criminal court. All three defendants are residents.

The Public Prosecution said it had completed its investigation into the defendants, who were previously arrested in coordination with the Ministry of Public Health.

The case was uncovered by ministry employees authorised to exercise judicial enforcement powers. They detected the alleged offences, prepared the relevant reports and referred the matter to the Public Prosecution.

According to the investigation, the defendants allegedly received money unlawfully in exchange for issuing forged medical certificates containing false sick leave for individuals employed by several government entities.

The certificates reportedly enabled those individuals to obtain official leave from their employers despite not being entitled to it.

The investigation also found that the defendants allegedly failed to retain the medical records of the individuals who received the sick leave certificates.

The Public Prosecution said the alleged acts constitute forgery. The two doctors also face allegations of breaching their professional duties and violating the ethics and rules governing the medical profession.
