Qatar continued its impressive run at the 4th GCC Games Doha 2026, with cueist Ali Al Obaidli winning the gold medal in the 15-red snooker singles event on Monday.
Al Obaidli secured his fourth medal of the Games after defeating Saudi Arabia’s Ziyad Al Qabbani 3-0 in the final. He had earlier overcome Kuwait’s Ahmed Abu in the semi-finals and UAE player Mohammed Shehab in the quarter-finals. The achievement adds to his previous gold medal in the 10-ball billiards doubles event, alongside silver medals in the 10-ball billiards singles and 6-red snooker singles competitions.
Speaking after the victory, Al Obaidli dedicated the achievement to Qatar and the fans who supported the team throughout the tournament, describing the competition as highly challenging due to the strong level of participants.
The President of the Asian Snooker Federation, Mohammed Salem Al Nuaimi, praised Al Obaidli’s performance, describing the gold medal as a proud achievement that reflects the growing standard of snooker in the region.
Meanwhile, Qatar’s padel team continued its winning streak with a 3-0 victory over Kuwait, following an earlier 3-0 win against Saudi Arabia. The team will next face Bahrain as they aim to retain their GCC Games gold medal.
In shooting, Team Qatar made a strong start in the trap events at the Lusail Shooting Complex. Qatar topped the men’s and women’s team standings after the opening rounds, while shooters Mohammed Al Rumaihi and Maytha Al Buainain delivered standout performances in the individual categories.
