Qatar’s Under-18 team seals Asian Basketball Championship berth

Qatar’s Under-18 national basketball team secured qualification for the FIBA U-18 Asia Cup 2026 in Ahmedabad, India (August 13 to 23), after a third straight Gulf‑qualifier win, beating Oman 80-67, at the Al Gharafa Sports Hall on Wednesday.

Qatar now has six points from three victories, guaranteeing one of the available continental spots alongside Bahrain, who share the same record. The two teams will meet on Thursday, July 30, to decide the Gulf champions.

Against Oman, Qatar trailed 18-19 in the first quarter, edged the second 23-20, fell behind 9-14 in the third, and dominated the fourth 30-14 to seal the win. Abdullah Yassin scored 38 points for Qatar, while Adam Suleiman led Oman with 17. Qatar had opened the qualifiers with an 80-76 win over Saudi Arabia, before defeating Kuwait 81-53.

In other Round 4 action, Saudi Arabia beat Kuwait 75-46, after earlier losses to Bahrain (62-54) and Qatar (80-76), while Kuwait had already fallen to Oman (62-59), Bahrain (106-51) and Qatar (81-53).

After four rounds, Qatar and Bahrain lead with six points each, while Saudi Arabia and Oman are on four, and Kuwait are winless.
