Qatar Wins Silver at West Asia Volleyball Championship

Qatar’s national men’s volleyball team secured the silver medal at the second West Asia Men’s Volleyball Championship after losing 3-0 to hosts Oman in the final in Muscat.

Oman claimed the regional title with a straight-set victory, winning 25–19, 25–15 and 25–23.

Qatar reaches final after strong tournament run

Qatar entered the tournament as defending champions after winning the inaugural edition in Bahrain in 2025.

The national team topped Group A before progressing to the semi-finals, where it defeated Iraq 3-0 to secure a place in the title match.

Despite being unable to retain the championship against hosts Oman, Qatar completed the tournament in second place and added another regional medal to its record.

Oman wins final in straight sets

Oman controlled the opening two sets of the final, winning the first 25–19 before extending its advantage with a 25–15 result in the second.

Qatar produced a closer contest in the third set, but Oman held on to win 25–23 and complete the straight-set victory.

The result gave Oman the championship on home soil, while Qatar collected the silver medal.

Three Qatari players receive individual awards

Qatar’s performances throughout the competition were also recognised through three individual awards.

The Qatari recipients were:

• Mohammed Al Waleed: Best Outside Hitter
• Abdullah Naseem: Best Middle Blocker
• Mahdi Samoud: Best Setter

The awards highlighted Qatar’s individual quality across attacking, blocking and playmaking positions.

Final tournament standings

Oman finished the competition as champions, with Qatar taking second place.

Iraq secured the bronze medal, while Kuwait finished fourth. Saudi Arabia placed fifth, followed by Syria in sixth and Lebanon in seventh.

Qatar’s second-place finish followed an unbeaten run to the final and reinforced the team’s position among the leading volleyball nations in West Asia.
