It was only a few weeks ago that Qatar’s Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy officially opened volunteer registrations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The response to the initiative was quite strong and people from all around the world jumped at the chance to be a part of the historic tournament.

Now, it has been revealed that more than 176,000 people, including 1,000 from siege nations, have so far applied to be a part of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, according to Gulf Times.   

Figures provided by the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) show 176,225 people have applied until 8.30pm Doha time Friday to help with the organisation of Middle East’s first  World Cup.

Committee figures have been broken down by nationality and reveal that 597 Saudi Arabians, 380 Bahrainis and 46 Emiratis have also applied to be a part of the event.

A spokesman for the committee said applications were from ‘confirmed nationals’ and not just from people residing in those countries, reported Qatar Tribune.

The highest number of volunteer applications have come from Indians, with almost 25,000 of them applying. 83% of all applications are from men.

Up to 16,000 volunteers will be used in 2022 to help out across a range of functions, including communications, medical services and hospitality.
