Luxury and exquisite craftsmanship were on display as Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani inaugurated the 19th edition of the Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition (DJWE) at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre on Monday.

Bollywood movie stars, Russian supermodel Irina Shayk, ace Qatari rally driver Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah, Olympic champion high jumper Mutaz Essa Barsham and several other celebrities attended the opening of the longest-running event in Qatar’s annual social calendar.

Arab music sensation Nancy Ajram was also spotted at the Tiffany & Co. booth during the opening day of the exhibition.

Sheikh Khalid took a tour of the pavilions after the formal opening ceremony. He visited different stalls by Qatar’s leading jewellery brands and also held a private viewing of some of their latest collections.

The event — organised by Qatar Tourism and Qatar Business Events Corporation with Qatar Airways and Qatar National Bank — will have on display luxury collections from over 500 Qatari and international brands.

Until February 25, visitors can marvel at exquisite craftsmanship, limited edition collections and extraordinary showpieces.

Qatar Tourism Chairman and Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Akbar Al Baker spoke about the exhibition.

“Over the past two decades, we’ve seen DJWE become the epitome of luxury and design, offering thousands of visitors a truly unforgettable experience. The combination of visitors being able to directly meet and interact with renowned designers and new participants like regional powerhouse Damas, will make this year’s edition even more of a success,” he said.

Valentino launched unique pieces in partnership with Education Above All (EAA) via the ‘Designing With a Purpose’ initiative. Proceeds from the sale will go towards EAA’s Educate a Child campaign. EAA Director of Partnerships Parintaj Ankleshvria spoke about the collaboration.

“We appreciate the organisers of DJWE supporting EAA’s mission to transform lives through education. Awareness and money raised from these unique jewellery collaborations will support EAA’s commitment to bringing new life chances, real hope and opportunities to improve the lives of poor and marginalised children, youth and women especially in the developing world through access to inclusive and equitable quality education.”

This year, visitors to the DJWE will also experience a unique auditory element, with an exclusive musical score being created by famed Qatari composer Dana Al Fardan.

Attendees can watch the exhibition for free by registering themselves here.  The exhibition will be held from 12 noon to 10pm until Thursday, February 23. On Friday, February 24, it will run from 4pm to 10pm before switching back to the original time schedule on the final day.
