Costa Rica defeated New Zealand 1-0 on Tuesday in the final qualifying match for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, securing the 32nd – and final – spot in the championships later this year. Costa Rica advanced to the World Cup for the third time in a row courtesy to Joel Campbell's early goal in their intercontinental playoff win over 10-man New Zealand at Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium.

Wales and Australia are the other two teams to qualify for the World Cup, having defeated Ukraine and Peru in their individual playoffs earlier this month. Following Australia's win on Monday, a record six Asian nations qualified for the global showpiece, which will take place from November 21 to December 18.

Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim al-Khalifah, head of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), congratulated Australia for being the sixth AFC team to qualify for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. At the same time, he continued, they should reflect on and honor the remarkable effort of all of their final 12 participating member associations, who have faced significant hurdles over the last two and a half years.



The final 32 teams — as well as their groups – are as follows:

Group A – Qatar (hosts), Ecuador, Senegal and the Netherlands

Group B – England, Iran, the United States and Wales

Group C – Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Poland

Group D – France, Australia, Denmark and Tunisia

Group E – Spain, Costa Rica, Germany and Japan

Group F – Belgium, Canada, Morocco and Croatia

Group G – Brazil, Serbia, Switzerland and Cameroon

Group H – Portugal, Ghana, Uruguay and South Korea

Al Bayt Stadium, Education City Stadium, Al Janoub Stadium, Stadium 974, Khalifa International Stadium, Al Thumama Stadium, Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium, and Lusail Stadium will host the final on December 18.

FIFA announced that it has extended the payment period for the tickets allocated during the second random selection draw sales period. The initial payment deadline for tickets assigned in the second phase which ended on 28th April 2022 was set for today June 15 12 pm. Doha time.

FIFA did not specify the new deadline, but said it will be notified soon on its website and through email to those consumers who had tickets that had not yet been paid for.
