In order to secure their participation in the Lusail Super Cup, representatives from the Egyptian and Saudi football federations have signed an agreement with the Lusail Super Cup Local Organising Committee. Later this year, the 80,000-seat Lusail Stadium, where the Lusail Super Cup will also be played between the champions of Egypt and Saudi Arabia, will host the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ final.

“There is no better way to test the full capacity of Lusail Stadium than by hosting two of the region’s biggest clubs. Both Al Hilal and Al Zamalek enjoy massive support and boast a stellar record of accolades at both domestic and continental levels – their pedigree will be a perfect match for a venue as magnificent as Lusail Stadium,” said Chief Executive Officer, FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 LLC, Nasser Al Khater.
Ibrahim Al Kassim, General Secretary of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation, represented the Saudi football federation. Al Hilal SFC, the most decorated club in the history of the sport, will represent Saudi Arabia in the Lusail Super Cup. This year, it won the Saudi Pro League three times in a row. Al Hilal SFC also won a record-setting fourth AFC Champions League title last November. Overall, it had a remarkable season that was capped off with the title win.

Al Kassim said, “We are thrilled to be taking part in the Lusail Super Cup. With the World Cup coming to the region for the first time in just a few months from now, we are all delighted to join in these historic celebrations and hope that our match against Zamalek shows off the tremendous abilities that Qatar has to host the world’s biggest sporting event.”
Faisal Al Ghashiyan, a member of the Al Ahli SFC board of directors also marked his presence. Waleed El Attar, the Executive Director of the Egyptian Football Association, signed on behalf of the organization. Al Zamalek SC will be representing the Egyptians. Also present was the General Supervisor of Football at Al Zamalek SC, Amir Mortada Mansour. El Attar remarked, “The World Cup in Qatar will be an historic event for all Arabs to take pride in. To have the opportunity to play at the venue which will host the World Cup final is a tremendous honour for our club. We look forward to being part of a wonderful match against Al Hilal – one that will celebrate the tremendous achievements of Qatar, as we build-up to the most important competition in world football.”
The IFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ will be held in Qatar from November 20 to December 18, 2022 in the tournament's most compact edition. The largest distance between stadiums is only 75 kilometers so spectators and competing teams can stay in the same accommodations for the duration of the competition.
Mansoor Al Ansari, Secretary General, Qatar Football Association, said: “The Lusail Super Cup will showcase Qatar’s tremendous facilities ahead of an historic edition of the FIFA World Cup. We are delighted to be hosting two of the region’s most prestigious clubs at this outstanding venue, which will illustrate our readiness for the World Cup and highlight the deep passion for football in this part of the world.”

Hosting a total of ten matches, Lusail stadium is the largest venue to stage FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ with the opener match between Argentina versus Saudi Arabia on November 22 and the championship game on December 18, 2022. A PTFE roof that shields the stadium from heated winds, blocks dust, lets in enough light for the pitch to thrive, and provides shade to lessen the burden on the air conditioner are just some of the stadium's many environmentally friendly features. The facility just received a Class A* rating for Construction Management and a five-star rating from the Global Sustainability Assessment System for its design and build.
