In recognition of its commitment to maintain high journalistic standards and upholding values of credibility, professionalism and transparency, Aljazeera.com was rated green by media watchdog, NewsGuard.

Washington-based NewsGuard is composed of a team of trained journalists and experienced editors who review and rate news and information websites against criteria developed on nine journalistic values - with a focus on basic practices of credibility and transparency.

Each news website is evaluated on these criteria and given a red or green rating to represent its credibility.

According to the recent ratings, Aljazeera.com meets the criteria fully and has received the green shield.

The recognition implies that the website gathers and presents information responsibly and refrains from repeatedly publishing false content, reported Gulf Times.

The website has also been acknowledged for regularly correcting and clarifying errors, in case there are any, and avoiding deceptive headlines.

According to the rating, Aljazeera.com discloses ownership and financing, clearly labels advertising differentiating it from news content, makes it public about who is in charge, including any possible conflicts of interest.

The evaluation has classified Aljazeera.com with other renowned international websites such as BBC’s website.

Contrary to earlier accusations by some media outlets that commented against the professionalism of the website, the rating by NewsGuard suggests the general trustworthiness and credibility of the website are well up to par.
