As an expatriate in Qatar, making sure you have all the required home utilities before you move into a newly rented space is a top priority. Water, electricity, telephone and Internet connection are not always included as part and parcel of your rent contract.

If you need to apply for water and electricity connection, keep in mind that Kahramaa, Qatar’s General Electricity & Water Corporation (QGEWC), is the sole provider of these two essential utilities in Qatar.

The corporation has several service centers sprinkled across the country, to which you must submit the required application, that you may download here. You can also visit this link to find a service center near you.

When you do apply, visit a Kahramaa service centre with the following documents:

  • Completed application form signed by your sponsor, the form is available here
  • Copy of Qatar ID
  • A letter from your employer
  • QGEWC reference number (you will find this on your home’s front door frame if you have an apartment; if you have a villa, look on the electricity box)
  • Copy of your lease
  • 2,000 QAR for deposit (QR 1,200 for electricity and QR 800 for water)
  • Current meter readings

It can take up to 48 hours for electricity and water supply to be connected to your home.
