Motorists take note as the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced a temporary traffic closure in both directions of the Corniche Street for a few days next month.

The four-day closure will go into effect from 12 am on Friday, August 6 until 5 am on Tuesday, August 10, 2021.

To be implemented with the support of the General Directorate of Traffic of the Ministry of Interior, the closure will allow the completion of some construction works under the Corniche Street development project.

The traffic diversion is scheduled to take place during the summer vacation and school holidays. It comprises the closure of the Corniche Street and parts of some surrounding areas around Al Bidda Park, Al Diwan Street, Al Rumaila and Grand Hamad Street.

While private vehicles will be prevented to use the closed roads, pedestrians will be permitted to do so. This will be in addition to the use of public transportation means.

The works under the Corniche Street development project include setting up four pedestrian tunnels. These tunnels are being designed to enhance pedestrian traffic and connect the ways to the neighborhoods.

Part of the works also comprises the development of three plazas on the Corniche, namely, Al Dafna Plaza, Corniche Plaza, and Al Bidda Plaza.

Currently, there are seven stations of Doha Metro along Corniche Street. These include DECC, West Bay, Corniche, Al Bidda, Souq Waqif, Msheireb, and National Museum of Qatar.

In addition to this, there are six public transport bus stations at various locations including stations beside Dafna Park, City Center, DECC metro station, Hotel Park, Doha Fishing Port, and Souq Waqif Metro.

The public transport buses will operate at intervals of every 10-15 minutes, providing transportation for nine hours on Friday from 2 pm to 11.59 pm and on Saturday and Sunday from 6 am to 11 pm, according to Ashghal.

The buses will operate in parallel with Metro operating hours except on Friday on which operation of Doha Metro will be suspended.

Ashghal has urged all commuters using the Corniche Street to pick alternative routes to get to their destinations, as shown on the map.
