Just a few days after throwing open the new interchange at Bani Hajer, which is expected to reduce commute time between Doha and Al Rayyan, Qatar’s Public Works Authority Ashghal has announced the start of another development project — this time on the A Ring Road.
The A-Ring Road Development Project, which will increase the number of lanes from two to four in each direction along the 6.7km stretch, is expected to considerably ease congestion in Central Doha, reported Gulf Times.

“The importance of the project is that it’ll develop a vital road characterised by its heavy traffic movement as it connects many commercial and residential areas as well as development projects in Doha such as the Msheireb Downtown Doha project,” Mohammed Arqoub Al Khaldi, Head of Doha City Projects in Ashghal’s Roads Projects Department, told The Peninsula.

There are also plans to develop some of the streets that lie perpendicular to the A-Ring Road as well as developing service roads on both sides.
The A-Ring Road project will work on developing nine intersections that will help enhance traffic flow.
The works will see the Dar Al Kutub, Roundabout being changed into a signalled intersection.
Meanwhile, the capacity of eight signalled intersections — at Al Rifaa, Al Diwan, Hamad Al Kabeer, Nasser bin Khalid, Al Kahrabaa, Msheireb, Al Asmakh and Sofitel — will be further enhanced, reported Qatar Tribune.

The works will also further increase the number of parking bays, install new street lighting, construct pedestrian and cycle lanes, provide road signs and pedestrian crossings to enhance road safety, and do landscaping.
Infrastructure services — stormwater drainage, potable water network, irrigation network and drainage network — will all be further upgraded,
The first part of the project is divided into five phases. Work on the next four phases will begin soon and is expected to be finished by the end of 2019.
