Ashghal has embarked upon the implementation of the QR730m East Industrial Street Extension Upgrade Project, for a distance of approximately 2.5km.

The project area is located between East 33 Street Interchange on the Industrial Area Road and Aba Al Saleel Interchange on G-Ring Road.

The expected completion is by the first quarter of 2020, reported Gulf Times.

The project will incorporate revamping of the main road, expanding the carriageway from two lanes into three lanes in each direction, converting three roundabouts into three at-grade intersections and constructing two cycling and pedestrian underpasses.

The upgrade will increase road capacity to 6,000 vehicles per hour and is expected to reduce travel time by approximately 50%, according to Qatar Tribune.

The road is the access point for key expressways which receive thousands of cars along with trucks heading to the industrial Area from Hamad Port (via Hamad Port Road) and from Doha (via Industrial Area Road and G-Ring Road) daily.

It will also create better access for traffic movement from Al Furousiya Street and Salwa Road towards Hamad Port and Mesaieed Road.

Road closures

Ashghal will close the lanes coming from Aba Al Saleel Interchange on G-Ring Road towards East 33 Street Interchange from June 13, 2018, until September 1, 2019.

During the detour, traffic will be diverted east to the nearby Al Hefain Interchange on G-Ring Road.

Travellers heading from Hamad Port Road or G-Ring Road to East Industrial Area or local roads located between Street 37 and Street 52, can use Al Hefain Interchange, continue straight on Umm Al Seneem Street to Umm Al Saneem Interchange, aka Karwa Interchange, before turning left into Industrial Area Road till East 33 Street Interchange, turn left into East Industrial Street Extension towards East Industrial Area, as illustrated on the attached map.

Travellers, heading from Hamad Port Road or G-Ring Road to West Industrial Area or Salwa Road, can use al Hefain Interchange, continue straight on Umm Al Seneem Street to Umm Al Saneem Interchange, aka Karwa Interchange, before turning left into Industrial Area Road till East 33 Street Interchange, turn right into East Industrial Street towards West Industrial Area and Salwa Road.

Commuters on way from Hamad Port Road or G-Ring Road to Asian City and Qatar Racing Club, can also use Al Hefain Interchange, continue straight on Umm Al Seneem Street then take left the signal lights prior to Karwa Interchange to access Street 1110. 

Those coming from East Industrial Street can also use Industrial Area Road, continue straight to Karwa Interchange then take right into Umm Al Seneem Interchange to go to Asian City and Qatar Racing Club.
