Qatar produced a dramatic late comeback to draw 1-1 with Switzerland in their FIFA World Cup 2026 Group B clash, with Boualem Khoukhi striking in the fifth minute of added time to rescue a point for the reigning Asian champions.
Switzerland took early control of the match and were rewarded in the 17th minute when Breel Embolo confidently converted a penalty to give his side the lead.
After going ahead, the Swiss maintained strong organisation and controlled possession for much of the first half, limiting Qatar’s attacking opportunities and looking comfortable at the back.

Qatar, however, gradually grew into the contest after the break, showing more urgency in the final third and pushing higher up the pitch in search of an equaliser. Despite sustained pressure in the closing stages, Switzerland appeared set to hold on for all three points.
In a dramatic finish, Khoukhi found the breakthrough deep into stoppage time, heading a pass from Homam El Amin into the bottom right corner of the net. It sparked celebrations among the Qatar players and supporters.
The result marks a significant moment for Qatar, as it represents their first-ever point in a FIFA World Cup match, while Switzerland are left frustrated after conceding so late in the game.
