The Qatar World Cup 10-Ball competitions kick off Monday in Doha and will continue until October 29.
The Qatar Billiard Sports Federation has completed its preparations to host the tournament, with strong competition expected due to the participation of an elite group of the sport’s leading players.
Qatar will be represented in the 128-player main stage by five players: Ali Al Obaidli, Mishal Turki Al Ali, Mansour Al Obaidli, Bashar Hussein and Abdul Latif Al Fawal.
The qualifying rounds will be held over four days from October 19 to 22, with 16 players advancing to complete the main-stage field. The main stage begins on October 24 and continues through the final on October 29.
The qualifying rounds will use a single-elimination format, while the opening rounds of the main stage will follow a double-elimination system. The advanced rounds will then move to single elimination, culminating in a final between two players competing for the world title.
Yaqoub Fakhro, Director of the Qatar World Cup 10-Ball, confirmed that all organisational and technical preparations for the tournament had been completed. He said Doha was ready to welcome an elite group of the world’s leading players, with comprehensive preparations in place for the start of the competition.
“We are ready for the start, and our players are fully prepared to compete and deliver honourable performances. We look forward to presenting the tournament in a manner befitting Qatar’s sporting stature and reflecting its extensive experience in organising and hosting world championships,” Fakhro said.
He explained that the federation is seeking to deliver a distinguished edition of the tournament, particularly as Doha hosts the event for the third consecutive year under a five-year agreement running from 2024 to 2028. He affirmed that the previous two editions achieved significant organisational and technical success.
Fakhro added that the federation continues working to provide the best conditions for participants, ensuring the success of the competition and its delivery to the expected standard. These efforts also reinforce Doha’s position as a leading destination for major international sporting events.
This year’s edition carries the slogan “Qatar Welcomes the World,” while “Qabqoub,” inspired by the blue crab found in the waters of the Arabian Gulf, has been selected as the tournament mascot. Its colours are inspired by Qatar’s national identity, reflecting the event’s connection to the local environment and the country’s maritime heritage.
The tournament will feature wide participation from leading billiards players, headed by Germany’s Joshua Filler and Ralf Souquet; the Filipino pair Fedor Gorst and Carlo Biado; Austria’s Albin Ouschan and Mario He; Britain’s Jayson Shaw; the Netherlands’ Niels Feijen; Spain’s Francisco Sánchez Ruiz and David Alcaide; and Canada’s Alex Pagulayan. They will be joined by an elite group of other leading internationally ranked players.
The tournament offers total prize money of USD 450,000, with the champion receiving USD 100,000 and the runner-up earning USD 40,000. The prize fund is expected to intensify the competition and provide players with additional motivation to deliver their best performances.
