Carrefour in Qatar has launched a new fundraising campaign in a bid to support the education of underprivileged children in the country.

After raising QR1million for Education Above All (EAA) recently, Carrefour will now match the amount donated by customers at its cash counters under the new initiative.

If a customer donates QR10, for instance, Carrefour will also donate QR10 and the proceeds will be given to EAA.

The campaign is being carried out under the back-to-school season and will run until September 10.

The main idea behind the initiative is to increase access to education for children who are unable to attend a school due to their financial circumstances.

“We have committed to helping transform the lives of the less fortunate children in our community by offering them access to quality education. Our previous campaign was a huge success owing to the unwavering support of our loyal customers,” said Laurent Hausknecht, Carrefour Qatar’s country head.

“We aim to build on this new initiative so that together we can create great moments for children most in need of them,” he added.

Carrefour was launched in Qatar in 1999 and it operates five hypermarkets and five supermarkets today, employing more than 1,800 colleagues.

EAA’s Fundraising and Partnerships specialist Moza Al Mansouri said, “Every contribution to EAA’s educational projects and programs creates a tangible impact on the communities that these projects operate and serve.”

“Our main purpose is to assist and provide marginalized and impoverished children with access to quality education,” Al Mansouri added.
