Qatar has some great roads, access to some of the world’s fastest cars and quite affordable gasoline prices. A combination of the three makes life on the fast lane easy for most people in the country.

With speeding being one of the main causes of death in the country, efforts are on to curb the practice. But a recent study shows that the incidents of speeding have actually gone up during school vacation time.

The Peninsula, quoting an official at the Ministry of Interior, said that the most common traffic violation being registered nowadays was speeding.

“Speeding is the most common traffic violation due to ongoing school vacations,” said Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Radi Al Hajri, Director of Media and Awareness at the Traffic Department.

He also said that the General Directorate of Traffic at the Ministry of Interior, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, will hire a British company to train school bus drivers.

According to it, drivers of private school buses will have to pass an examination conducted by the company at the end of a three-day course. Otherwise their names will be sent to the Ministry of Education and Higher Education for necessary action, while the successful drivers will be given certificates of eligibility.

In case of mistakes committed by any driver included in the list, the Ministry of Education will have to take responsibility.
