The act of helping others can create an improved sense of well-being, especially during the holy month of Ramadan. Knowing that you sacrificed something such as time, finances or property in order to help others in need can give you a sense of purpose in life or work and inner satisfaction.

Qatar ranks among the world's most charitable countries in the world. It seeks to provide charitable help to people in need and those of limited resources and income inside and outside the nation.

Helping others during Ramadan

Ramadan is a special time of year, a time when Muslims around the world take a step back from their daily routines and focus on community, charity, fasting, and prayer.

Ibn Abbas described that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was the most generous of people, and even more so during the month of Ramadan. Here are some ideas of what you can do this month to help those around you.

There are people who are suffering from illness, hunger, or desperation in your own neighbourhood. Islam recommends helping those in need at all times, but more so during the month of Ramadan.

"Those who spend their wealth by night and day, in secret and in public, shall have their reward with their Lord. On them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve" (Qur'an 2:274).

"By no means shall you attain righteousness unless you give freely from that which you love. And whatever you give, Allah knows it well" (Qur'an 3:92).

If you can't help the needy by means of wealth, the least you can do is pray for the well-being of the other.

Free Iftar tents for the needy (Share info HERE)

Every year during Ramadan, you can spot several free iftar tents spread across the country. Most of these free iftars are made available by charity organizations.

However, there are quite a few tents that are sponsored by companies or by generous Qatari families. In some areas, you can see tents attached to mosques that provide food for the needy.

The purpose of this post is to make information regarding such tents available to the needy. If you have any information/photos regarding such tents, please share it HERE.

This information might help a lot of needy people, and Qatar Living would like to help by giving a single platform for users to share this info.

Do not encourage begging during Ramadan

It is the duty of a Muslim to give food to the poor and to offer the one who asks for something. However, begging, which impairs human honor and virtue, shatters personality and leads to the exploitation of benevolent people's pure feelings, is regarded as an ugly act.

The Prophet stated that it is permitted to ask for something for only three categories of people. They are as follows: the people who are indebted because of acting as a guarantor for a person or a community and cannot pay their debts; people all of whose property was destroyed in a disaster; and people who became destitute and whose poverty is acknowledged by people who know them. It is not regarded permissible for people other than those who have a day's food and the strength to work for livelihood to beg. (Muslim, Zakat, 109)

In Qatar, begging is illegal and residents are asked not to encourage beggars by giving them money. In case you are being bothered by beggars, please call the Ministry of Interior on 44714222 or 44714220.

Beware of situations like this one:

Expect this to happen even more starting from Sunday. People will say that they need fuel to drive back to Saudi Arabia/...
