In today’s coronavirus (COVID-19) statistics, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) announced that Qatar recorded 693 new cases, 1468 new recoveries and three deaths.

In the last 24 hours, 9 new patients were admitted to intensive care due to COVID-19. With these, the total number of cases in intensive care has reached 203.

The new cases were diagnosed through the emergency departments or different health centers, the Ministry said, adding that the new cases had the virus transmitted to them from people who had been previously infected.

The new cases have been identified after conducting investigations by the research and investigation teams of the Ministry that contributed to the early detection of cases.

The new confirmed cases of infection have been introduced to complete isolation in the various medical facilities in Qatar, where they receive the necessary healthcare according to the health status of each case.

The Ministry highlighted that the number of daily infections among citizens and residents (other than expatriate workers) has gone up in comparison to what it was in May, despite the overall decrease in the total daily infections in Qatar.

The Ministry cautioned that most of the infections in these two categories belong to members of the same family and that the source of the infections is often due to social mixing with friends or other relatives.

The Ministry said care must be taken not to transmit the virus, especially to the elderly and those with chronic diseases.

Regarding the deaths, the Ministry said that the three individuals were aged 59, 63, 81 years, all of whom were receiving the necessary medical care. 

The Ministry extended its sincere condolences and great sympathy to the families of the deceased.

The Ministry also underlined that the virus is gradually declining in Qatar due to the precautions and preventive measures implemented by the state and the commitment to them by members of the community with a recent decrease in the number of infections.

While this is a reassuring indicator, the Ministry said, it does not mean the epidemic has ended as the virus is still present in the community.

The Ministry stressed the application of preventive measures must continue to be implemented in the stages of gradually lifting the imposed restrictions, as failure to comply with the precautionary measures during the next stage will lead to the return of the virus.

Further, the Ministry said individuals who display symptoms of COVID-19 should either quickly contact the 16000 helplines or go directly to one of the designated health centers for testing. This is important to ensure early detection and appropriate treatment and care.

The four main testing centers are:

- Muaither Health Centre

- Rawdat Al Khalil Health Centre

- Um Slal Health Centre

- Al Gharafa Health Centre
