During the Cabinet’s regular meeting on June 1, 2022, the Cloud Policy Framework that was developed by the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) was approved and published on the website.

About the Cloud Policy Framework
The Cloud Policy Framework provides trusted access principles for all stakeholders in the cloud value chain and defines a comprehensive set of policy and regulatory recommendations to stakeholders from the public and private sectors that are aligned with international laws and best practices

What does the Framework do?
This Framework establishes a cloud-friendly and safe environment that allows foreign and domestic investments in data centers and cloud services, further ensuring that factors such as data protection, privacy, transparency, digital inclusion, and security are available for both parties; the businesses and individuals.

How does this help investments in Qatar?
This Framework of cloud computing has been placed in Qatar’s digital transformation strategy, making it easier for Qatar-based businesses to grow, by enhancing their productivity and efficiency levels. Through this implementation, public and private entities will be able to provide better services, ultimately making Qatar a fully digitalized country that benefits consumers, stakeholders, and the national economy.

Positioning Qatar as a digital hub
With the approval given by the Cabinet, CRA will now be able to support Qatar’s ambition and stand out as a keen destination for foreign and domestic investments in innovative digital services, ultimately helping it establish its position as the leading digital hub. This move comes with the Framework playing a major role in contributing to achieving one of its Qatar National Vision 2030 goals.

According to the Qatar National Second Development Strategy 2018-2022, Qatar will be able to now develop a sustainable and high-quality infrastructure that supports the national economy and is capable of keeping abreast of the latest smart technologies and creating a balance between an oil-based and a knowledge-based economy, towards the diversification of the country’s economy.

CRA has already previously launched a draft of the Cloud Policy Framework with the goal of providing interested stakeholders an opportunity to give their feedback. In the coming time, the CRA is expected to engage with the private and public sector stakeholders to start implementing the recommendations before implementing the Framework.

The Cloud Policy Framework can be accessed on CRA’s website via this link.
