As the holy month of Ramadan draws to a close, the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf) has reminded all Muslims in the State of Qatar to be on the look for the crescent moon of Shawwal that marks the beginning of the special occasion of Eid Al-Fitr.

The Crescent Sighting Committee at the Ministry has invited all Muslims to sight the Shawwal crescent on Friday evening, May 22, 2020 (the 29th Ramadan 1441 AH), Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.

The Committee has asked the witnesses to report their testimony to the Committee's headquarters in the Ministry of Endowment and Islamic Affairs' building in Al Dafna.

Like every year, the Committee will meet immediately after sunset (Maghreb) prayer and thereafter will announce the official start date of Eid in Qatar.

If the Shawwal crescent is spotted, Eid will begin on Saturday, May 23 (the first day of the Islamic month of Shawal).

If no moon is observed, Saturday will be the last fasting day, and Eid Al-Fitr will start on Sunday, May 24.
