The Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail) announced yesterday that the total number of passengers who used the Doha Metro during the Arab Cup exceeded 2.5 million passengers with an average of 130,000 passengers daily.
Doha Metro operated 50,000 trips during the tournament which led to 885,000 km and the average time between trains is 2.5 minutes in one line in one direction.
While around 250,000 passengers used the metro during Qatar's National Day, which also witnessed the holding the matches of the tournament's final and the third and fourth place match.
Fans with Hayya cards (Fan ID) enjoyed unlimited travel on Doha Metro during the tournament period.
During the tournament Qatar Rail ensured to seize the opportunity to build the expertise of its Qatari staff as they were assigned in the stations under the Silver Command Team, which is responsible for crowd management and safety at the stations during match days.
Additionally, several of Qatar Rail's employees were nominated in the Tournament Transport Coordination Centre (TTCC) which brings together all transportation operators in the tournament as well as the National Command Center (NCC) tasked to facilitate communication and cooperation between the various entities involved in the tournament.
Chief of Service Delivery at Qatar Rail, Eng Abdulla Saif Al-Sulaiti, said that the Qatar Rail company is proud to participate in the organizational success system of the Arab Cup.
The tournament delivery in such an impressive way gained the confidence of 2.5 million passengers throughout the tournament period, which clearly reflects the growing confidence of residents and visitors in Doha Metro. It also confirms the company's operational readiness to receive and serve the guests of the World Cup Qatar 2022.
The FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2021 also constituted an exceptional opportunity to hone the expertise of national cadres and enhance the field expertise of the Qatari engineers and competencies working in the company. Al Enazi added.
As part of its preparations, Doha Metro extended its operational hours, as it was 21 hours a day throughout the week, except for Friday, when the working hours were 18 hours.
For the first time since the start of the metro operation, it had the 6-car trains on the Red Line, which contributed to doubling the capacity of the trains on that line.
The entire Doha Metro train fleet, which constitutes 110 trains, was fully deployed in service during the tournament.
Qatar Rail extended the working hours of Doha Metro services, reaching 21 hours a day throughout the week, and on Friday, when working hours reached 18 hours.
