The Qatar Padel Federation has announced full readiness to host the 2026 Qatar Padel World Cup, scheduled from November 2 to 7 at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex in Doha.
Doha's hosting of the Padel World Cup for the third time after 2021 and 2024 reaffirms the great international confidence and prestigious position that Doha enjoys as the capital of global sports, especially after the successful hosting of major sporting events in recent years.
Mr. Tariq Zainal, Secretary General of the Qatar Tennis, Squash, Padel and Badminton Federation and the director of the tournament, announced in statements to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), that Doha, as usual, will offer padel fans a distinctive tournament in all aspects organizationally and publicly.
Zainal pointed to the accumulation of Qatari experience in hosting various tournaments, including of course hosting the Padel World Cup in 2021 and 2024, where Qatari players have gained enough experience to present the best world championship.
The tournament director confirmed that all the organizing committees and work teams have completed their logistical and technical preparations to provide an exceptional experience for players and fans alike, pointing out that the tournament will witness the participation of 32 national teams that include a group of the world's most prominent stars and stars, with 16 men's teams and 16 women's teams.
Zainal, who is the President of the Asian Padel Federation, pointed out that Qatar has always worked to spread the culture of padel in the region and the Asian continent, and annually hosts the Premier Padel Grand Tour with the participation of all the top and top seeders in the world.
Regarding the preparations of the Qatar team participating in the World Championship, Zainal said that the Qatar team is one of the top ten teams in the world, and after being crowned with the gold medal in the first appearance of the sport of padel in Asia (Achi Nagoya), which was held in Japan recently, the Qatari team will definitely seek to compete strongly, appear honorably and reach an advanced position, especially that the World Championship will be attended by all teams ranked in the first places in the world and have a long history in the sport of padel.
For his part, Mr. Saad Al Mohannadi, Executive Director of the Qatar Padel Federation, confirmed that the stadiums hosting the tournament competitions have been prepared at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex, and that tickets have been offered electronically through the official platforms to facilitate the access of local and international fans, and to create a distinctive festive atmosphere in the stands.
Al-Mohannadi pointed out the great confidence that the International Padel Federation places in the State of Qatar by granting it the right to host the 2026 and 2028 World Championships in a row, which is an international recognition of the accumulated organizational experience of Qatari cadres and the world-class sports infrastructure and facilities provided by the country.
With Qatar being awarded the right to host the 2026 and 2028 World Cups, Doha will be on par with Spain as the host country of the Padel World Cup in history with 4 editions, an extension of the impressive organizational successes achieved in the 2021 and 2024 editions.
So far, 15 teams in both categories (men and women) have qualified to participate in the Qatar 2026 World Cup, which are: in the men's category: Qatar (host), Argentina, world champions, Spain, Portugal, Italy, UAE, Brazil, France, Chile, Sweden, the United States, Mexico, Paraguay, the Netherlands and Germany.
In the women's category, Qatar, Spain, Argentina, Italy, Portugal, the Netherlands, Sweden, France, Brazil, Belgium, the United States, Paraguay, Chile, Germany and Great Britain qualified.
The official draw for the tournament and the distribution of groups will be held immediately after the conclusion of the qualifiers for the Padel World Cup in the State of Kuwait from 26 to 30 October, where the participating teams will compete to snatch the last 16 seats in the men's and women's categories to participate in the Doha finals.
It is worth mentioning that the group system of the Padel World Cup is based on the official mechanism approved by the International Padel Federation (FIP), which is a system that combines the group stage (first round) and then the direct knockout rounds, where the 16 teams will be divided into 4 groups, each group includes 4 teams (in the men's and women's categories). The top four teams in the world (e.g., Spain, Argentina, Italy and Portugal) are placed at the top of each group as ranked teams, and then a public draw is held to distribute the rest of the teams.
Each team plays against the other three teams in its group in a single-round league system, and 3 pairs matches are held in each match between two countries, and the team that succeeds in winning two out of 3 matches grabs the winning point of the entire match, and qualifies for the first and second quarter-finals from each group, and the qualified teams meet in direct knockout matches for the semi-finals. And then the final round. Teams that do not qualify for the quarter-finals do not leave the tournament immediately, but play ranking matches to determine the final places from fifth to 16th place, to ensure that each team plays as many international matches as possible.
