The Ministry of Education and Higher Education(MOEHE) has launched the 14th edition of the Scientific Excellence Award for which the entries will be submitted only online because of the exceptional situation due to COVID-19.
The award was launched at a press conference organized by the Organising Committee of the Scientific Excellence Award yesterday to introduce the 14th edition of the award, main objectives, and participation categories.
The award activities will kick off on September 6 through induction meetings for school principals and coordinators from schools, ministries, and institutions.

A number of training workshops will also be delivered to different categories taking part in the award. Applications to participate in the various categories will be made available from October 1 to 13, 2020.
Dr. Hamda Hasan Al Sulaiti, CEO of Scientific Excellence Award said, “The award aims at deepening the concepts of excellence and creativity by adopting international standards, implementing specific programs and integrating individual and institutional efforts to improve the educational process outcomes in Qatar”
At the outset of the conference, Dr Hamda al-Sulaiti who is also the Secretary-General of Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science said, ''the award is considered one of the most important and highest prizes offered by Qatar, and because the winners are honored by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.''
She explained that the award is related to honoring distinguished Qataris in various fields in order to spread the culture of creativity and excellence in the Qatari society.
Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Award and Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Shared Services Affairs Ali al-Buainain, the Member of the Executive Committee and a consultant in the Office of HE the Minister of Education Aisha al-Sulaiti, also participated in the press conference.
Al-Sulaiti noted that the award had a clear effect in enhancing the aspects of excellence among individuals and institutions who compete and aspire to obtain the award, and improve the outcomes of the educational process, as this was reflected in the increasing number of applicants year after year, and the award recipients continued to maintain their distinction across the various educational stages.
Dr. Hamda said that the award includes nine categories — excellent student (primary, preparatory and secondary school separately), excellent university graduate, master degree holder, Ph.D. degree holder, excellent teacher, excellent school, and excellent scientific research.
She said that winners of the Scientific Excellence Award will get a cash prize. In the primary school category, the winner of the gold medal will get QR10,000 and winner of the platinum medal will get QR15,000
“In the category of preparatory school, the winner of the gold medal will get QR15,000 and the winner of the platinum medal will receive QR20,000. In the category of secondary school, the cash prize is QR35,000. The winner of the university student category will get QR45,000. However, the winners of an excellent teacher and excellent school categories will get QR60,000 and QR100,000 respectively,” said Dr. Hamda.
