To celebrate Eid al Fitr, Qatar Tourism (QT) will host its first-ever Eid Festival, where all attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy a variety of entertainment held along the Doha Corniche from Tuesday, May 3 to Thursday, May 5 between 4-11 pm each day.

The three-day event will feature the region's first-ever giant balloon parade with a marching band, daily live musical performances at 7.30 pm featuring renowned local and regional artists, carnival games, food trucks, kiosks, and fireworks displays that will light up the Doha sky every night at 9 pm.

QT has worked closely with its partners at the Ministry of Interior and Ashghal to ensure safe and smooth logistics for the Eid Al-Fitr festivities taking place along a 1.4 km stretch of the Doha Corniche.

For the duration of the festival, the Doha Corniche will become pedestrianized so visitors and residents can enjoy one of the capital's most popular thoroughfares like never before.

According to the Ministry of Interior (MoI), Doha Corniche Street will be temporarily closed from 3 to 5 May, in particular from Tuesday early morning until Thursday midnight. Traffic will be reopened on May 6 after coordination with MoI’s General Directorate of Traffic and the Ministry of Transport.

Traffic closure starts from the Sharq intersection to the Sheraton intersection in the north, and from the Sheraton intersection to the Port intersection in the south. All roads leading to the corniche will be closed, these include Al-Fardan, Al-Jasra, Al-Marmar, Al-Diwan, Al-Maha, Civil Defense, and Barzan.

Various alternative transportation options will be available to facilitate individuals' access to the corniche. Among the 37 metro stations in Qatar, seven lead directly to the Corniche such as Al-Bidda, Doha Corniche, and West Bay. Also, the second ring road and the third ring bus service in Corniche.

Additionally, there will be pedestrian zones, and seven new "Park and Ride" facilities near metro stations such as Education City, Al-Qassar, and Al-Wakra.

To ensure the safety and security of everyone traveling along Corniche Road, the MoI urges the public to cooperate with traffic police and adhere to traffic diversions. It also recommends using alternative roads for vehicles, such as the Istiqlal Road and A-Ring Road.

Ashghal is working together with MOI on the Corniche closure plan, which will also involve carrying out some infrastructure work to ensure that traffic flows more smoothly during closure.

The Supervisory Committee of beautification of Roads & Public Places has been working on improving and beautifying Al Corniche Street to offer improved pedestrian paths, new cycle lanes & street lighting, and more landscaped areas. Also, along Corniche Street and Al Bidda Street are additional pedestrian crossings.

During the closure, Ashghal will provide 17 new bus stops for the Corniche Shuttle Bus Routes with 25 bus stops. Additionally, 55 variable message signs and fixed directional signs are located along the route network to direct drivers to alternative routes, and over 200 wayfinding signs for visitors along the Corniche.

Several intersections were also developed and signals were reprogrammed to improve traffic flow. Moreover, 40 traffic signal intersections will employ pedestrian detection systems to enhance pedestrian safety.
