The FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2025 group stage continued at the Aspire Zone in Doha on Monday, with a day of drama and milestones.

While Colombia, England, and Germany booked their places in the Round of 32, South Korea, Switzerland, and Venezuela impressed with strong wins. Indonesia, meanwhile, made history with their first-ever World Cup victory as the race to the knockouts intensified.

In Group E, England powered past Egypt 3-0 thanks to Reigan Heskey’s brace (14th and 56th minutes) and a late strike from substitute Harrison Miles (90th).

The Manchester City forward’s thunderous opener set the tone before he doubled the lead with a composed finish. Heskey missed a penalty saved by Omar Abdelaziz, but England stayed in control. Coach Neil Ryan praised his side’s resilience.

“The players have shown great character, personality, and resolve to get over a tough first game. Football can be cruel at times, but to bounce back and win both matches is really pleasing to see,” he said.

Venezuela completed an unbeaten group stage with a 4-2 win over Haiti. Diego Claut and John Mancilla (penalty) fired them ahead early, before Haiti fought back through Da-Benz Jacquet (41st) and Woodson Felix (72nd). Player of the Match David Garcia sealed it with two late goals, including a penalty in stoppage time.

Venezuela coach Oswaldo Vizcarrondo admitted his team had found the going tough.

“A World Cup is tough. We find it difficult to break down defences that sits deep. We’re not being clinical enough in the final third, and we’re struggling.”

In Group F, Switzerland claimed top spot after beating Mexico 3-1. Mladen Mijajlovic’s stunning brace (17th and 58th) and a Santiago Lopez own goal (20th) settled it despite Aldo De Nigris’ reply (57th).

Already-qualified South Korea overcame Ivory Coast 3-1, with Kim Jisung’s looping cross (26th) opening the scoring, Jeong Hyeonung (48th) restoring the lead, and Yi Yonghyeon (87th minute penalty) sealing it. Allassane Toure (38th) netted for the Ivorians.

In Group G, Colombia beat North Korea 2-0 through Miguel Solarte (25th) and a Santiago Londono penalty (33rd). Manager Fredy Hurtado hailed the effort: “The team played well, scored, and showed character because we were playing for qualification against a team that had just thrashed El Salvador and drawn with Germany.”

Defending champions Germany were ruthless in a 7-0 demolition of El Salvador.

Jeremiah Mensah (32nd and 57th), Alexander Staff (41st), Wisdom Mike (45th), a Reyes own goal (52nd), Lasse Eickel (69th), and Christian Prenaj (84th) all scored.

In Group H, Indonesia made history with their first World Cup win, defeating Honduras 2-1. Evandra Florasta (52nd minute penalty) opened the scoring, Luis Suazo (54, penalty) equalised, and Fadly Alberto’s superb half-volley (72nd) sealed it.

Coach Nova Arianto said: “It’s truly an incredible feeling for us. Our first win at a World Cup is something extraordinary, and I hope this becomes the starting point for the players’ journey so they can continue to grow.”

Brazil and Zambia shared the spoils in a thrilling 1-1 tie. Jonathan Kalimina scored directly from a corner (26th), before Dell headed Brazil level (81st).

Coach Carlos Patetuci said: “We needed to compete better in the first half. We corrected our mistakes and created many chances. We could’ve won, but we weren’t happy with our finishing.”

Zambia’s Dennis Makina added: “Great character from the boys… a lapse of concentration and we conceded the equaliser.”
