The illegal siege of Qatar has been going on for more than a year now, and the world’s nations have been unanimous in condemning it.

The European Parliament became the latest institution to condemn human rights violations on Qatari people by blockading nations, a move that was welcomed by Qatar’s National Human Rights Committee (NHRC), reported Gulf Times.

The European Parliament had condemned discriminatory practices of blockading nations against Qatari citizens and called on Egyptian authorities to release Qatari citizens Ola Al Qaradawi and her husband. They had been arrested without any charges against them.

The NHRC also welcomed the decision by Interpol to remove Qatari citizen Dr Youssef Al Qaradawi from its red notice (wanted list) after it found that allegations made against him were political and violated international human rights, reported The Peninsula.

The European Parliament also approved a draft decision criticising the continued human rights violations as a result of the blockade. It also called for an immediate end to the embargo.

The NHRC also called on the European Parliament to issue a similar decision against Saudi Arabia for the release of three Qatari citizens who went missing in the country. It also called on the body to bring those responsible to account, reported Qatar Tribune.
