Qatar advanced to the Qualification to Quarter-Finals stage of the FIBA U18 Asia Cup 2026 after defeating Sri Lanka 90-43 in their third and final Group C match in Ahmedabad, India.
Qatar took all four quarters 20-17, 18-9, 29-10 and 23-7 at Veer Savarkar Indoor Stadium.
Captain Abdulla Yassin Mousa delivered the standout performance of the game, finishing as the leading scorer with 37 points, while Sudam Liyanage led Sri Lanka with 10.
The result saw Qatar finish the Group Phase in third place with four points.
China topped Group C with a perfect six points after defeating Iran 96-58, while Iran finished second with five points and Sri Lanka placed fourth.
China therefore advanced directly to the quarter-finals, while third-placed Qatar move into the Qualification to Quarter-Finals stage against Japan, who finished second in Group D.
Iran will face India in another qualification game, while Bahrain will meet Chinese Taipei and Syria will take on the Philippines.
Australia, New Zealand, China and Korea have already secured direct places in the quarter-finals after finishing top of their respective groups.
Under the tournament format, the four group winners advance directly to the quarter-finals, while the teams finishing second and third contest the Qualification to Quarter-Finals stage for the remaining four places.
The qualification games are scheduled for August 19, followed by the quarter-finals on August 20 and the semi-finals on August 22. The tournament concludes with the final on August 23.
Reaching the semi-finals would also secure qualification for the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup 2027, which is scheduled to take place in Pardubice, Czechia, from June 26 to July 4, 2027.
