The successful hosting of the 2022 FIFA World Cup was a defining event not only for Qatar, but the entire Arab region. Hailed as the best-ever event, it elevated Qatar’s prestige sky high.

Now, several months after the competition’s end, the world continues to acknowledge its impact.

The Arab Union for Tourist Media (AUTM) selected the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 as the Best Tourism Sports Festival held on Arab soil in 2022.

The announcement was made during the 2023 Tourism Media Awards, held on the sidelines of ITB Berlin, the largest tourism event in the world.

The award ceremony was held at the Jordan Pavilion, where Jordanian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Makram Al Qaisi announced the winners in the presence of World Tourism Organisation officials.

The Arab Tourism Media Awards are the highest Arab awards for honouring distinguished governmental and private figures and institutions in tourism promotion, hotels and tourist destinations in the Arab region.

Man of the Arab Heritage 2023, Arab Heritage Personality, Best City for Sustainable Tourism and the Best Arab Event Award for Sustainable Tourism for the Climate Change Conference (COP 27) were some of the other awards that were announced.

There were also awards for the best CEO of an Arab tourism authority, the best personality in Arab tourism bodies, best Arab hotel management, best Arab tourist destination for 2023, best Arab tourism festival, best travel and tourism agency that supports Arab tourism, best application for travel and flight reservations and best hotel suitable for the Arab family.

AUTM Chairman Dr Sultan Al Yahyai said this year’s winners are personalities and institutions that have outstanding and distinguished efforts in the tourism industry from various Arab countries.
