Come 2019 and Qatar will have its very first British School, exclusively catering to girl students.

The Durham School for Girls Doha (DSGD), which will be the country’s first British school for girls delivering a British curriculum, is set to open its doors by September 2019, reported Qatar Tribune.

An announcement to this effect was made during an official signing ceremony, attended by representatives of the Durham International Schools and DSGD Chairman Engineer Saad Al Muhannadi.

It was reported that the school, which is situated in Al Messila, will announce the dates of admission in the near future.

The school will open to the public in different phases. In phase I, the school will begin the Early Years Foundation Stage Programme (EYFS) as well primary classes from years 1 to 6. Beginning in 2020, secondary level classes will be open to students and the school will be fully functional by 2022.

DSGD is a sister school of the Durham School UK. It will draw inspiration from cultures of Qatari and the wider Islamic world as well as Durham School’s 600-year heritage of outstanding British education.

The school will have a house system linked with that in Durham School UK.

“Durham School for Girls Doha reflects the need to educate young women in Qatar with the very best British education available in the region in order to support the country’s vision for its young women, to empower them and prepare them for the opportunities and challenges of life across the world,” said Al Muhannadi.
