Keeping in mind the 2030 vision of sustainability and cleanliness, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment’s (MME) Islands and Beaches section has completed one of its initiatives. The first stage of cleaning Qatar’s beaches from the northern and northwestern side of the country has concluded recently.

The campaign, which extends for twenty days, started from the Abu Dhalouf Park in Madinat al Shamal and reached Al Reem Protectorate, which is 65 kilometers northwest of Doha. The second stage of cleaning would start from Al Reem Protectorate to Doha Al Haseen.

The first stage of beach cleaning removed about 125 tonnes of waste. A lot of punctured and damaged tires, two fiberglass water tanks, seven iron barrels, and various animal carcasses including the carcasses of two turtles and a dugong (a very popular marine mammal in Qatar) were also found.

The Qatar National Vision 2030 strongly advocates for the beautification and well-maintenance of the country with an emphasis on sustainable development without any harm to the country’s flora and fauna.
